The flutter of waking—
sapphire butterflies
poised to sip
the earth’s nectar,
its sweetness
gracing each
velvet cheek-petal.
Your hair,
golden sunbeams rising,
warming sand and shell.
A hint of a smile,
your sparrow’s song,
its secret story
of love untold.
Oh, how you nestle
into my heart,
in ways
you cannot know.
